For all those Secret Friends Fans new to the world of RSS, here is a little guide to adding our RSS feed to a feed reader.

What is RSS?
RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it. It is updated automatically and displayed through a “Feed Reader”.

Feed Reader software allows you to grab the RSS feeds from various sites and display them so you can read and use the content.

There are many Feed Readers available for different platforms. Some popular feed readers include My Yahoo, Bloglines, and Google Reader. FeedReader (Windows), and NewsGator (Windows - integrates with Outlook) are also popular readers. There are also a number of web-based feed readers available.

Once you have your Feed Reader, it is a matter of finding sites that syndicate content and adding their RSS feed to the list of feeds your Feed Reader checks. Many sites display a small icon with the acronyms RSS, XML, or RDF to let you know a feed is available.

How to add our Feed to your reader.
We have two RSS feeds that Secret Friends Fans puts out. One is for posts. The feed is updated every time new content is posted. The other feed is for comments. The feed is updated every time someone leaves a new comment.

1. On the Secret Friends Fans homepage click either the “POSTS” or “COMMENTS” link to the right of “SUBSCRIBE TO THE FEED…” at the top.

2. Then pick your feed reader from the list of readers displayed. This should automatically add it to your preffered reader.

3. If you do not see your reader in the options, go to your RSS reader and select a button or link that allows you to add a new feed. When asked for the URL to your feed, paste in:

Simple as that! Now you should receive recent Secret Friends Fans activity updates in your RSS reader. Enjoy!
